It’s always difficult when people ask me how long I’ve been a “practicing” psychic and witch. I say 15 years, since that’s the time that my personal spiritual path made a real shift from any strictly defined religion and into more abstract realms. It’s when my prayer and meditation sessions began to involve the rituals and practices that solidified over the next few years into a solid, magickal method. It’s when I began to really hone and control my empathic and spiritual senses, rather than just “letting stuff happen”.
The reason that date feels a little false to me though is that I’ve been questioning, seeking and learning along a very strong spiritual path for as long as I can remember. I was raised Christian, as many people in the U.S. are and in a strange way, the fundamentalism and strictness of my parent’s religion became a gateway for my own path, though I wouldn’t be defined as “Christian” now. Spirituality wasn’t something for holidays, or even just Sunday; it was all pervasive, a part of every aspect of life. Though my own beliefs and affinities shifted away from those I was raised with, the constant presence and reminder of the Spirit was exactly what I needed to develop a seeking, questing and solid spirituality of my own.
